Wednesday May 18th

7pm We have Joshua Sanders. Joshua Sanders’ music has recently been receiving radio airplay on Americana/country radio (WICR 88.7 in Indianapolis) as well as internet radio (Terry Ann McClean's Bluegrass Mix). Josh’s songwriting shows the influences of his two longtime heroes, Bruce Springsteen and Townes van Zandt. Though a native of New York City, he became corrupted driving cross country on his way to college in California when he heard local bands covering “Take me back to Tulsa, I’m too Young to Marry” and “Mama Don’t Let You Babies Grow up to be Cowboys”. A summer spent hanging out in Santa Barbara and listening to country bands covering Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash tunes at the now defunct Sportsman Bar sealed the deal Josh’s musical background is primarily in jazz, blues and bluegrass. He studied voice in Los Angeles with Susan Strietwieser and in New York with Janie Barnett; guitar in Los Angeles with Gary Mandell of Boulevard Music and in New York with Glenn Alexander and Matt Smith. He is currently studying with New York City guitar legend Robin Greenstein and performs regularly at small venues in and around NYC and the Hudson Valley. Mr. Sanders' early band experience was primarily electric blues, which he found was tremendously helpful in terms of putting all those lessons to some kind of practical use, as well as figuring out how to work with the bass and drums to form a singular sound. Since 1999 he has attended several songwriting circles here in New York, with a goal, rarely achieved, of writing one song every week.

8pm, all the way from Phoenix, AZ, we are proud to have, Brian Chartrand. Brian Chartrand has been writing and performing his songs for over 15 years. When he is not touring the US and recording as a solo singer/songwriter, he performs with his bands: The Sweet Remains, The Voce Project, and Ten Dollar Outfit. Brian’s most recent endeavor, The Voce Project, is currently in the studio completing their first studio record with famed producer Clarke Rigsby at Tempest Recording Studio in Tempe, AZ. The Sweet Remains recently released it’s debut album “Laurel & Sunset.” Their single “What I’m Looking For” was featured twice in a nationwide advertising campaign for Subaru. Since it’s inception in 2005, Ten Dollar Outfit has independently released 6 albums, and continues to help define the music scene in Phoenix, Arizona, Brian’s new hometown. Since 2009, Brian has completed three European tours, which have taken him through Norway, Denmark, Holland, Germany, and the Czech Republic.

at 9pm, we have the amazing talent of Peter Kirk who will be joined by Jared McCarthy to perform as an acoustic duo. Here's what some peeps are saying about Peter... "...single-handedly put a stamp on catchy-as-fuck, melodramatic, highly-produced songs reminiscent of the 80's finest pop songs. You'll have these tunes stuck in your head all day, and you might even begin imagining yourself walking through the intro of some long-forgotten TV show."-Cold Atlantic "Brings a fresh voice to the male vocalist role"-Sad Steve" Peter Kirk is a one man operation who must be a production master because his EP, "Chasing Rainbows," is incredibly polished. Every little nuance in a track serves a kick ass purpose."-The Coughing Dog "These tracks are great and they bring back memories of blasting Phil Collins while out on the quad." -Vibe to This

at 10pm, we have Suitcase...We know he's from New York and that he's had 66,707 profile views on his MySpace. We're guessing some of his profile viewers include Sting's daughter Coco and 2007 New Band Esser, because they're among his eight MySpace friends, although whether they socialise in person we haven't a clue.

So we've got no information on him, we don't know his name, anything about his past, whether he has credentials or a back catalogue. Like we say, we're driving blind. But we have got ears and there are four songs on his MySpace from which to draw conclusions. Our main conclusion, listening to his gruff vocals over fuzztone guitar, is that he's the American Seasick Steve. Seasick Steve is American? OK, then he's Seasick Steve, period. Or think of him as a replacement White Stripes, only minus Meg, and without Jack's overbearing ego.

The MySpace URL refers to a suitcase AND a laptop. We have no idea why this is or what role, if any, the laptop plays, because this is the least computer-generated music we have heard since the time Robert Johnson came round our house with Blind Willie McTell and had a stand-up row about whose turn it was to plug in the guitar. It might have been a sit-down row, it was a long time ago. The point is: the guitar's electric, but electronica this ain't.

No, it's the blues, pure and simple, with fuzz for frills. And that's it. You can tell Mr Case – Suit to his friends – is singing the blues from the titles. Fishing With the Devil is one. My Friend Devil is another. He does a lot of consorting with the devil, does ol' Casey. On the latter he growls, "I sold my soul to the devil and I'm feeling fine". All right for some. It's not all satanic, though. Nails in My Coffin and Diving Duck aren't that far removed from Cor Baby, That's Really Free, the No 27 novelty hit from December 1977 by John Otway (and Wild Willy Barrett) that was basically a gift to buskers everywhere. This has about as much chance of getting to No 27 as I Blame Coco.

Finally, at 11pm... Session 73 is proud to have Michael Brunnock join us for the first time! Irish Singer/songwriter Michael Brunnock performing Session 73 April 13th 11pm
' I just went to see a screening of

Wednesday May 11th

At 7pm, we have the amazing sounds of Luke Hendon and his group. Luke brings us a sound very similar to Django Reinhardt. Read of him here...

At 8pm we have the fantastic sounds of Red Betty, a 3 piece ensemble of girls that light up Session 73 every time they play. Come see what they are all about...

9pm we have Joe Berg for the first time at Session 73. Joe is based out of Connecticut and is an emerging singer/songwriter on the New York scene. With his debut album "Here on Now", Joe is bringing his sound to Session 73.

10pm Brings us the return of Ted Garber from Washington, DC.
It’s hard to blend blues, jazz and roots rock together to create anything that really and truly works, but somehow Ted Garber has mixed these diverse sounds together to form his latest album, “American Rail,” a 10-track masterpiece. Catchy and mellow, smooth yet upbeat, Garber creates a one-of-a-kind album with his harmonica riffs and blues-y sound. “Strike It Up,” a distinctively upbeat ballad, further proves what a chameleon Garber is with backing horns and lyrics that make you want to bust a move. Funk, blues, roots rock, jazz and rock n’roll all make appearances in this latest album from the DC native, along with a refreshingly talented backing section full of horns, organs, a piano, drums and bass. “Giving Tree,” is where you really hear and feel the blues meets New Orleans sound. If you mixed Jason Mraz-style vocals and blues, you get this four-minute track, both musically and lyrically impressive. “American Rail” is a complete mix of sounds and musical styles, but you know what? It works. The entire album flows together into one captivating project. —Ashley Estill

At 11pm we have our residency songwriter, Carley Tanchon performing her original music... Raw, rootsy, sultry and serene…

“At the tender age of 22, to call her precocious would be an understatement.” (Daily Item, MA)

Music runs through my veins. I suppose it’s the blood that beats through my heart and keeps me alive as each day passes. It started with my Papa who gave it to my mom who was the first to teach me piano and guitar. Of course, whenever people ask where I got my musical inclination from, we say it had to have been my dad because we have no idea where his went. Needless to say, he plays the hell out of a kazoo. I’m grateful for growing up surrounded by laughter, and to this day, with my family is still my favorite place to be.

I spent most of my childhood in a little suburb of Cleveland, OH called Chagrin Falls. A friend visiting once described it as a Charles Dickens-like fairy-tale land, and to be honest, it could be. I loved growing up there, but I’m happy to be exploring more of the world. I’ve come to crave ADVENTURE.

Intermixed with musical theater roles in high school (skipping around stage as Little Red Ridinghood among one of my fondest memories), my favorite guitarist and long-time friend Adam Tressler dragged me into the wonderful world of gigging and I fell in love. This love of creating and performing led me to study at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA (toss up between that and engineering… a tough decision to make). I decided to leave bill-paying up to the gods of fate and grabbed on to music as hard as I could.

Wednesday May 4th

This week:

At 7pm we have New York based lead singer Peter Bagale. Peter has been performing with funky folk touring group, Bacci for the past 8 years.
Born and raised in Rochester NY, Peter now lives with his wife and child in the NYC area.He have performed professionally for the past 12 years, collaborating with countless musicians and performing solo.
Peter's style has been described as a unique blend of folk (singer/songwriter) and Electropop. The covers he performs range from Outkast and Tribe Called Quest to Paul Simon and The Beatles. Mixed with his original songs, his solo and group shows are an experience everyone will enjoy.

8pm brings us Charlie Loesel...Charlie Loesel is a versatile singer-songwriter with a country-blues voice and deft hand for the acoustic guitar. Loesel's debut CD, Westfalia, chronicles six years of travels across the states in a Volkswagen camper. Westfalia covers a lot of American ground. Blues. Folk. Country. A craftsman at heart, Loesel ties it all together in songs about loving, drinking and dying. Loesel developed his sound playing gigs around Traverse City, Austin, and Charlottesville. Starting out, he lived, camped and traveled in his Westfalia. The van was a songwriting retreat that carried Loesel on several trips across the United States. As a solo performer, Loesel mixed his upbeat originals with the cover material he was performing. During an extended stay in Nashville Loesel recorded his songs. The experience turned his focus from guitar to songwriting. Looking for a place to write away from the music business, Loesel moved to Seattle. Loesel spent two years developing his material before hiring a studio band to record Westfalia. The project was mixed in NYC with an all-star lineup of sidemen to fill out the arrangements. The CD was independently released in May 2010 through Incochee Trail Music. Loesel tours and performs regularly in Seattle.

If you're familiar with Dan Krikorian, you know his music is just as much about the poetic power of his lyrics as it is the melodies, all of which can range from infectiously upbeat to soulfully emotive. This all-encompassing and ever-attentive philosophy to his craft has boded well for Dan, who in just less than four years has written, produced and released three albums. Dan's latest venture, "Windsor Blue," is a shift from his earlier musical styles to more adventurous and weightier folk tunes, with influences ranging from classic literature and iconic figures such as Bob Dylan, to the talents of modern musicians including Joe Purdy and Josh Ritter. "I think I approached the songwriting process differently than I ever have before," the Orange County, Calif.-based singer/songwriter says. "I dove into classic books, poems, essays, Harry Smith's 'Anthology of American Folk Music' - anything that I thought might give me a greater understanding of the themes I found myself trying to express on this album." Dan performs at 9pm

10pm, we would like to welcome back extraordinary reggae act, The Essentials...
Singer/songwriters Michel Aubertin and Phil Grajko formed The Essentials to create innovative yet classically sounding reggae music. With conscious lyrics and unforgettable melodies, The Essentials are making a name for themselves in the contemporary reggae, blues and pop scene. This is a show you won't want to miss!!!!

8pm is also a returning veteran of Wednesday nights at Session 73 with Red Betty... Red Betty is the trio of strong female singers rocking the house with their amazing culmination of soul, singer/songwriter and good ol' rock and roll...

At 9pm, We have Saba.
“Recognized as a Best Acoustic Nominee at the 2004 and 2005 San Diego Music Awards, it's hard to believe that her vocal abilities went almost unnoticed until she belted out KD Lang karaoke-style amongst friends at a L.A. club. For those in San Diego who have caught Saba live, you know that there is nowhere for her to go but up..” – Vicki Marangos, 944 Magazine San Diego

10pm, Wednesday Night Original Sessions is proud to present, Tinted Image from Rochester, NY. In the past year Tinted Image has been catching the attention of both crowds and national artists everywhere. Having been exposed to thousands of people at single shows, including a highlight performance in front of 35,000 while warming up the stage for Smash Mouth, there music has been able to spread rapidly with shows all over from New York City to New Orleans. Tinted Image has toured and shared the stage with national artists like the Smash Mouth, Trevor Hall, Paramore, Ingrid Michaelson, Robert Randolph, Average White Band, Little Feat, Tim Reynolds, Sonny Landreth, the Campbell Brothers, Badfish, Donna the Buffalo, Mc Lars, the Subdudes, and more. Their name is quickly becoming a household name at venues and festivals all over the country.

The group is fronted by 19 year old vocalist, Alyssa Coco, who performed on season 7 of American Idol. The rest of the ensemble is made up of Joel Vickers on Saxophone, Matt Merritt on guitar, Levi Bennet on drums and Tony Galafaro on bass. Coco’s vocals combined with Vicker’s sax lines soaring over the heavy hitting band allows them to blend jazz, acoustic rock, and folk into a fresh take on the pop music scene. With a spot in International Jazz Festival, a new record out on itunes, and vigorous national touring schedule ahead, it has become evident Tinted Image is something worth paying attention to.

Finally at 11pm, nothing tells a story like a man’s voice. Matt Sucich is
a good singer that can sing every experience into one song. A good songwriter knows how to put the lifts and lulls in all the right places. When someone can do both, well, then it’s very simple: people listen.
Matt’s voice has the uncanny ability to relay love, loss and everything between. His songs make use of the simplest elements; yet deliver the complexity of emotions that dig deep to uproot our own personal experience. Every pocket of silence weighs heavy with intention. It speaks to the ability to experience both the absence of others as well as one’s own anonymity in a city like New York.

Most people will note the obvious singer/songwriter comparisons & that’s OK. What people will also find, after they’ve dug beneath the surface observations we’re all prone to make and depend on, is that Matt’s voice is actually one of a kind. There’s an undeniable pull, a distinct feeling of something familiar and close. An intimate suggestion, or a question you may never answer, but love to hear him ask.

It comes down to this: everyone hears something special when Matt sings. Everyone hears a story. You don’t have to listen hard either; the room is always silent.

April 13th ROCKS out loud...

What a great night of music folks.....

First up is Ellia Bisker....aka... SWEET SOUBRETTE:

Sweet Soubrette features the songwriting, vocals and ukulele of Ellia Bisker, whose dark, edgy love songs have captured fans' hearts since she began performing solo in 2006. Her poetry, fiction, and essays have been published in a variety of online and print magazines, and her songwriting was honored with an ASCAPlus Award for 2009/2010. Bust Magazine describes her as "Brooklyn's fishnet-clad femme fatale."

Sweet Soubrette's first album, Siren Song, was released on indie label MH Records in 2008 and received critical praise and high rotation on national college radio. Time Out NY described it as "at once sweet and sassy, celebrating reckless behavior with a charmed wink." The Deli said it was "almost impossible to stop replaying in one's head after hearing."

Next at 8pm, we have Ted Garber. Ask Ted about his musical influences, and four passions shine through-the iconic time-honored entertainers of his childhood, such as Sinatra and Elvis, his late folk-rock musician father, the rhythm and blues scene of New Orleans, and insatiable globe-trotting. His thirst for new experiences has led him to more than 30 countries on four continents. Whether it's a dingy shantytown motel room in Tanzania, a Brazilian beach hut jam session, a single-mom waiting tables at Denny's, or the smiling shoe-shining oracle on a New Orleans street corner, Garber's walking, hitching, gigging, chicken-and-goat-bus-cultural-immersion is what steers his musical odyssey.

Ted kicked off his career performing covers on the streets of New Orleans for tips, where he balanced academic studies at Tulane University with his passion for playing. Inspired by the vibrancy of the city and realizing his natural ability to connect with a crowd, he honed his talent for original material. He went on to open for the likes of Pat McGee and has performed in venues as diverse as DC's legendary 9:30 Club, LA's The Viper Room, and Nashville's Bluebird Cafe. He was also named DC's Top Entertainer by WUSA-Channel 9, and won On Tap Magazine's Battle of the Bands "Taste of Arlington" Competition.

and at 9pm....the one and only... Shane Cools. “There comes a point when an unsigned artist runs out of accolades to pile up – (Irving Safdieh’s) perilously close to that threshold” AP Magazine – March 2008.... .... Irving Safdieh made waves in the music industry from 2003 to 2008 as songwriter and vocalist for The Perfect Mistake. By rigorously taking self-promotion to the next level, Irving and The Perfect Mistake were regulars on the Purevolume top unsigned artist chart and were ultimately titled Americas Top Unsigned Artist by Fuse TV in 2007. Irving and The Perfect Mistake earned critical acclaim by appearing on national television (Steven’s Untitled Rock Show in June 2007), in print (AP in 2008) and on the Vans Warped Tour before calling it quits in 2008. .... ”Pop was my first glimpse into the world of music and has really defined my growth as a musician, it’s time I brought those roots to the forefront” says Safdieh when asked about the new musical direction taken with his new project, Shane Cools. Shane Cools showcases elements that were instrumental in TPM’s success while adding the individuality that comes when an artist has the full control over the recording and production process. “Playing every instrument on the record really takes the final product to the next level, I wouldn’t have it any other way” says Safdieh.

10pm we have the first residency artist, Carley Tanchon returning to Session 73. Raw, rootsy, sultry and serene… “At the tender age of 22, to call her precocious would be an understatement.” (Daily Item, MA) Come see Carley perform songs from her new album "The Great Unknown", which was most recently performed to a packed house at Rockwood Stage 2 last week.

Finally at 11, Wednesday Night Original Sessions welcomes John Gribbin. John is a young musician I can safely say is one of my favourites locally....Often have I had it mentioned to me that he has the potential to be a great songwriter, and I can’t see any reason to disagree. The alias of the esteemed John Gribbin, ‘Building Pictures’ finds the young musician in inquisitive mood, tentatively and tenderly exploring all manner of new sounds...this song highlights his restlessly questing spirit and assured songcraft.

Wednesday April 6th

This weeks lineup has some new comers and some old familiar faces that have rocked the stage at Session 73 in our previous weeks here on Wednesday Night Original Sessions.

at 7pm we have the fantastic Steve Katz....

Steve Katz is a New York-based singer, songwriter, guitarist and recording artist. Originally from Belgium. Steve has lived, traveled, and found inspiration in exotic places such as India, Israel, Nepal, and Thailand.

Although Steve has developed a reputation for being a sensitive singer-song writer, his real talent lies in his excellent and unique guitar playing. Steve has been playing guitar for years, and he loves experimenting and uncovering new melodies. While Steve listens to mostly classic and progressive rock, Genesis, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, and Cat Stevens have had the most influence on Steve, though it's hard to find a common thread between their great works and Steve's own modest songs. That's a little about Steve. The rest is in his music ...

at 8pm... fresh off of a 3 week tour across the country including SXSW we have Oscar Albis Rodriquez from Ghost Robot Ninja Bear. Here is an excerpt from Punknews.org:.... seems like just yesterday I was writing Nakatomi Plaza’s obituary, and now frontman Oscar Albis Rodriguez is back with a pair of releases: Ludlow Lion’s No Stories and single “One Pedal to Another” from Ghost Robot Ninja Bear. Both are/were digitally released for a donation-based price, although No Stories recently saw a physical release. And while Rodriquez is only the bass player for Ludlow Lions--frontman/guitarist Brendan Coon is the star here--my Plaza fandom maintains I celebrate Rodriguez at every turn.

So, uh, hey. I like your music.

But Ludlow Lions doesn't have much in common with Nakatomi Plaza. Grieving NP fans would be better off checking out Ghost Robot Ninja Bear’s first single. There are plenty of similarities between the two groups--Rodriguez handles the mic with the same gruff delivery. He displays the kind of guitar pyrotechnics heard on Unsettled and Ghosts. Both bands have/had awesome names. But there are slight differences. For example, I’m pretty sure Ghost Robot Ninja Bear is not a Die Hard reference, but it’s been a while since I’ve seen Die Hard Harder Hardest.

“One Pedal to Another” is a hair slower than the average NP tune, with guitar tones that, weirdly enough, recall Smashing Pumpkins. The differences are subtle, though, so fans who liked anything Rodriguez has done in the last decade or so should be on board. “Blood, The Tango” is a little closer to the NP mold--super catchy, kinda punky, totally awesome.

Both tunes are tasty, so click here to contribute to good music. A second single is due out June 15. SPOILER ALERT: It’s good too. A full-length will follow eventually.

9pm we have Brady Oh from the Brooklyn based indie band Hunters and Runners....The band’s new free EP, I Was The Ghost (released October 27 on Bright & Barrow Records), showcases another team up of Hunters & Runners with producer Chris Howard (Of Classic Renown) to serve up 3 bone-chilling songs perfect for this yearly party of the ghoulish and horrifying.

“Meet Your Maker”, “Knife”, and “The Ghost” are 3 tracks that will surely bring listeners to the darkest of nightmares, forcing them to trudge through the River Styx with the Grim Reaper to face demons, homicidal psychopaths, and clean up after bloody, gruesome murders. All of the songs, however, despite the brutality, are very neatly wrapped in the tight musicianship, extensive harmonies, and anthemic choruses that listeners and fans expect from the band.

10pm brings newcomer Ed Romanoff...
Ed's journey into music began at seventeen with a used guitar and a John Prine songbook. This relationship lead him to some of the country's grittiest stages and most inspiring musical minds.

At 21, Ed hitched a ride to Wyoming, working a myriad of day jobs - branding cattle, teaching special education classes, apprenticing with a carpenter - while playing local venues in Jackson Hole and Casper after dark.

Following moves to Boston and Washington D.C., Ed founded the nine-piece New Orleans R&B funk ensemble The BlameHounds , playing at clubs like The Barns at Wolf Trap and The Bayou. Reviews often compared his voice to John Prine and Mark Knopfler, reminiscent of his roots. He continued playing shows, both with the BlameHounds and solo shows opening for various national touring acts.

Ed currently lives and works in New York City, writing and collaborating

Closing out the night at 11pm is Cooper.

The Audition!!!!!

Every last Wednesday of the month, Wednesday Night Original Sessions is proud to present the  comedy show, The Audition.

Hosted by Greg Stone this weeks lineup consists of an explosive cast...including the up and coming Louis Katz...http://m.nypost.com/p/entertainment/best_jests_CFoOv9zZ3Apewwtg50TlFM  According to the New York Post, Louis is ranked number 10 for best jests above heavy hitters like Conan O'Brien, Tina Fey and Lewis Black.

He is now a professional comedian based in New York who can be seen at clubs and colleges across the country.

Louis has performed at the Montreal “Just for Laughs” Comedy Festival, the Atlanta “Laffapalooza” Comedy Festival, the Amsterdam “Toomler International” Comedy Festival and the Vancouver Comedy Festival. He’s acted in short comedy films playing a crack-dealing plumber, a Sharpie-sniffing office drone, a competitive priest, an inappropriately violent cop and an assassin who works for the lottery commission. Stage credits include NYC’s Manhattan Monologue Slam, the Little Monsters Festival, and the one-act comedy CTRL+ALT+DEL, written and directed by Conan writer Andres du Bouchet.

Anthony has appeared in commercials for NASDAQ, Dunkin’ Donuts, Humira, Caesars Atlantic City, CarMax, Cablevision, American Express, Fanta Soda and more. He's even been in a music video, playing a mailman in Bon Jovi's Have A Nice Day.

“Anthony DeVito has a quality that many comedians who act strive for, but few attain - he is an outstanding dramatic actor. He can reach a depth and vulnerability in a role that creates memorable performances. He takes our breath away. And that ability means that his comedic roles have the third dimension we crave. He finds the human being in every role.
- Kelly Kimball, founder Kimball Studio

Last but not least, Jared Fried takes the stage on Wednesday to light things up.  Jared, aka J-Train is best known for his work with J-Train's Comedy Express and his Weekly World News Blog "Dude Dating with J-Train"
